TRAINING CORNER

Six Important Water Safety Rules to Follow This Summer

The sun is shining, and temps are rising, signaling the welcome return of swim season and summer fun. As families prepare for refreshing pool days and beach outings, it’s also the perfect time to revisit water safety practices. While water activities offer wonderful opportunities for physical activity and family bonding, they also require the proper precautions. Swimming skills and water safety awareness are essential for kids of all ages, especially considering that water-related accidents remain a significant concern for young children between ages 1 and 4.

RECRUITMENT CORNER

Summer is in full swing, and so is our recruitment team! We are striving toward our goal of more than enough safe homes for children and families in all of our states.

Kansas:

July has been full of connection and community across Kansas! We celebrated Independence Day in Pittsburg alongside local families, and on July 11, we shared resources and smiles at the Non-Profit Fair Food Truck Friday in Garden City. On July 12, we joined the festivities at North YMCA Famfest in Wichita. Looking ahead, we’re excited to speak at Overland Park Baptist Church on July 20 and participate in the Gray County Fair in Cimarron on July 23. Our popular Pizza in the Park events are also in the works—stay tuned to the TFI Village Facebook page for updates about one possibly coming to your area soon!

Oklahoma:

It’s been a meaningful month of outreach and collaboration in Oklahoma! On July 12, we hosted Morning Mentors: A Breakfast for Foster and Adoptive Fathers at Rudy’s BBQ in Norman and later joined the fun at the Bluegrass Jamboree on Bell in Shawnee. On July 13, we presented at Northeast Baptist Church in Norman, followed by a Recruitment Collaboration Meeting with DHS, Native American tribes, and agencies in Muskogee on July 14. We’re excited to connect at Shine the Light Foster Care Info Night in Tulsa on July 17 and Sunset Market in Seminole on July 18. We’ll also be part of Starlit Exchange: Charity Night Market of Kay County in Ponca City on July 19 and will speak at Little Axe First Baptist Church in Norman on July 20. We’re honored to wrap up the month at the Oklahoma Foster Family Appreciation Event in Tulsa on July 26!

Texas:

In Texas, we’ve been busy deepening our community ties and spreading the word about the need for foster families. On July 2, we canvassed Comanche with TFI materials to raise awareness. We spoke at the Electra City Council meeting on July 8, and on July 10, we connected with families in Wichita Falls. On July 14, we presented to the Wise County Commissioners Court in Decatur, followed by the Wichita Falls City Council on July 15. Next, we’ll be at the Slime Time Program at River Bend Nature Center in Wichita Falls on July 17. We’ll continue outreach in Burkburnett on July 18 and in Electra on July 21. We’ll close out the month with a visit to the Cisco City Council and a community give-back event in Cisco on July 28.

Our current foster parents are our most effective recruiters! Please let us know how we can help you and set up meetings with your contacts. We are doing this for our foster parents, families, and children.
